Peer Support In Action | August

Our Peer Support team have been busy this month. Here's the latest from Estara’s Peer Support Mentors.

Balloon Volleyball

Balloon Volleyball facilitated by the Peer Support team on the 18th August, got clients and staff together for a bit of friendly competition. Always fun, it gets people moving, and it gave everyone a chance to get to know each other a little better. Balloon Volleyball also happens to be a great workout and an opportunity to improve wheelchair skills!

Client lunch and quiz

On Saturday 22 August the Peer Support team coordinated the Estara and Tindall Gask Bentley Lawyers (TGB) bi-monthly lunch for people currently in the Spinal Rehab Unit, along with their family members and staff.

The menu? Chicken, chips, salads, and Drumstick ice creams. The entertainment? A general knowledge quiz and music quiz. Working in teams and creating healthy discussion.

Volunteers from Estara and TGB joined in too, helping serve the food, chatting with patients and families, and getting involved in the fun. For people who are partway through their rehabilitation, weekends can feel quiet. With no therapy scheduled the days can stretch, so events like this make a real difference.

A big thank you to TGB who have sponsored these lunches for 20 years. We are grateful for their long term commitment and support.

Every Wednesday Wellness Hour - August 2026

We continue to have a great turn out to our Wednesday wellness hour, sometimes longer, it’s becoming very popular. This month with our participants, we have made quote jars, painted on pottery, made bracelets, and also some time for colouring in.  The main thing is getting people together to chat, share stories and bring out their artistic creations.  It also gives people a chance to take time out from having to think about the daily routine of rehabilitation.

Women’s Group

Our next Women’s Group get together will be on Monday 31st August.

The Women’s Group enables women who have had a spinal cord injury (SCI) or a neurological condition to catch up with peers, share information, ask questions and build friendships. Estara Peer Support Mentors Vicky and Molly love seeing the connections being made within the group.

If you are interested and would like to get involved with the Women’s Group, please get in contact with Molly here.

Before we wrap up, Peer Support Mentor Vicky shares a thought for the month;
