Our community programs

Beyond providing services under the NDIS, we advocate for and actively promote community inclusion and participation.

Recreation Group

We believe in supporting our clients to live their potential. One of the ways we encourage participation in the community is through Estara’s Recreation Program. Offering a variety of interactive activities to adults who rely on a wheelchair for mobility.

The recreation program is open to Estara clients.

What sort of things does the recreational program do?

  • Visits to outdoor venues like Glenelg Beach, the Botanic Gardens, Adelaide Oval, the Adelaide Zoo and Cleland Wildlife Park.

  • Visits to cultural institutions like Parliament House, the South Australian Museum, Adelaide Gaol, Tandanya and the Jam Factory.

  • Participate in activities like music therapy, wheelchair dance parties, wheelchair squash, bowling and art sessions.

We run groups in Adelaide's north, west and central areas, so there's likely something happening near you.

Get in touch with us to find out what's on and pick something that works for you!

Wheelchair Community Sports SA Program

Estara’s Wheelchair Community Sports SA program has been made possible by a generous bequest from the late Roger Munchenberg. Roger wanted to create more opportunities for people with spinal cord injury, neurological and related disability to get into sport and stay active.

The program supports people of all ages and abilities, whether you're trying wheelchair sport for the first time, returning to a sport you love or looking to take your participation further.

What does the program offer?

  • Come and try events – Opportunities to experience wheelchair sports in a fun, supportive environment.

  • Sports directory – Find wheelchair sports, clubs and activities across South Australia.

  • Youth scholarships – Financial support for young people to pursue their sporting interests, honouring Roger Munchenberg's wishes.

  • Lived experience sports advisory – Helping sporting organisations, clubs and community groups to create more inclusive and accessible opportunities.

  • Equipment and sporting aids hire – Access to sports wheelchairs, the floating beach Mobi-Chair and Paragolfer, without the upfront cost.

Volunteering with Estara

Our volunteers are a valued part of the Estara community, generously giving their time and skills to support people living with spinal cord injury, neurological and related disability. Their contributions help people stay connected, participate positively in their community and enjoy greater independence.

How do our volunteers make a difference?

  • Community participation – Supporting clients with recreational activities, outings and social connections.

  • Events and activities – Helping deliver community events, programs and fundraising initiatives with Estara.

  • Support at home - From home and garden maintenance to walking a dog, providing companionship via a phone call, or taking a client out for some shopping and a coffee, our volunteers love to support people in their daily life.

We are grateful for the time, care and dedication of our volunteers and the difference they make in our community.
