A day in the life of a Senior Support Worker

This month, we shine a spotlight on one of our Senior Support Workers, Liza Davison, to hear more about her role at Estara. Liza is based in our South East support team.

How long have you worked with Estara?

I’ve worked with Estara for just over two years.

Describe your job in 25 words.

Overseeing the operation of a five-resident SIL facility in Mount Gambier. Mentoring support workers, managing appointments, liaising with families, hands-on work with clients. Mix of admin and on the floor.

What are the top 3 things you must get done each day in your role?

  1. Promote independence for our clients whilst getting everybody where they need to be on time.

  2. Ensure all communications and diaries are up to date.

  3. Monitor the care and wellbeing of all clients.

Tell us about a typical day in the life of a Support Worker and the things people may not know you do.

A typical day for me looks like assisting clients with personal care, administering medications, doing breakfast routines and drop offs to various day options, cleaning the house and then sitting down to catch up on emails, organising appointments and reading through documentation.

What’s your favourite snack or coffee order?

Caramel latte.

What song best describes your workday rhythm?

Welcome to the Jungle – Guns ‘n’ Roses.

What are you watching and listening to at the moment?

I’m currently watching ‘The Handmaids’ Tale’ and I’m listening to varied music like Alice in Chains, Ole 60, Pierce the Veil, Treaty Oak Revival and Black Sabbath.

What’s the best part of working at Estara?

Definitely the clients. They always brighten my day.

What do you like to do when you are not working?

Spend time with my family and go camping.

What is your favourite holiday destination?

Favourite at the moment would have to be the Snowy Mountains in NSW and the Victorian High Country.

Is there anything else you feel like sharing with us?

I sing and play the guitar, although I don’t find much time for it these days!

I’m expecting my second child in January of next year and I have one excited little boy at home ready to be a big brother!
