Elite international sport returns to Adelaide, as our national wheelchair rugby team – the Australian Steelers – take on some of the world’s best at the 2026 Santos Wheelchair Rugby World Challenge (WRWC) in April.
Currently ranked number two globally and reigning World Champions, the Steelers have a proud history of securing medals and are sure to deliver big hits and strategic plays in front of a roaring home crowd.
The World Challenge will feature four competition days, community engagement activities and opportunities for fans to get close to the action and elite athletes.
See the Steelers take on some of the best athletes in the world as they go head-to-head against USA, Great Britain, Germany, Brazil and Denmark.
The event will run alongside the Australian National Championship, where domestic state-based teams will compete, and will also see the return of the fan-favourite junior division which launched in 2025 to cheering crowds celebrating the young athletes and potential future Steelers in some of their first matches.
We’re thrilled to welcome the Kenyan team for their first trip to Australia to compete in our Division 2 competition, in what will be a milestone moment for the growth and development of international wheelchair rugby.
The World Challenge will run from Thursday 23 to Sunday 26 April 2026 at the State Basketball Centre, Wayville in Adelaide, with games broadcast live on Fox Sports and Kayo Sports across the four days play.
Wheelchair rugby is a fast-paced, high-collision spectator sport described as a mixture of basketball, gridiron and rugby all in one – also sometimes affectionately referred to as ‘murderball’. The sport is mixed gender with both male and female athletes playing on the same team.
